Open source code for the Behringer KICK, a standalone sampler and groovebox with a touchscreen, 16 RGB pads and a gesture-control camera. The repository holds the application, audio engine, hardware protocol and a Buildroot Linux image.
Story
Behringer has published the source code for the KICK, its standalone sampler and groovebox. The repository is split into four folders: Kick for the application, AudIO for the audio engine library, ComProtocol for the hardware communication protocol, and Linux for a Buildroot Linux image that the unit runs.
The Music Tribe code is licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later. Third-party components keep their own licenses, and each folder has its own README. Contributions are taken through pull requests, and the project has a Discord channel for discussion.
The hardware features listed in the source include a touchscreen, 16 RGB pads in 8 banks, a sampler with sample editing, a step sequencer and a looper, over 300 built-in effects, and an AI camera for gesture control. Its rear panel has MIDI in and out, USB, LINK, and four CV and gate jacks.
